CHAN 2024: Senegal targets quarter-finals against Congo
Reigning champions of the African Nations Championship (CHAN), the Lions of Teranga are set to face Congo, with a place in the quarter-finals firmly in their sights.
Fresh off a victory in their opening clash against a West African heavyweight, Souleymane Diallo’s men approach this match brimming with confidence. The Senegalese coach confirmed his staff have meticulously analyzed their opponents:
We sent colleagues to scout Congo’s first match. I received a detailed report and we tailored our game plan accordingly. Congo is a solid team collectively, they use the wings well and play in a 4-2-3-1 formation with very active full-backs.
On the other side, Congo, who shared the spoils with Sudan (1-1) in their opening fixture, are determined to seize their opportunity. Head coach Barthélemy Ngatsono made no secret of his ambitions:
We took both positives and negatives from our match against Sudan. We know what to expect against Senegal, and we’re not here just to watch others lift the trophy.
This Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Aman Stadium, a victory would see Senegal join the exclusive circle of teams already qualified for the quarter-finals. But Congo is determined to delay that celebration.
