CHAN 2024: Samia Suluhu promises 1 billion to the Tanzanian national team

On the occasion of CHAN 2024, hosted in East Africa, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has set out to inspire the Taifa Stars with an extraordinary bonus.

Even though she was absent from the opening ceremony, the head of state made a lasting impression with her strong commitment to local football: nearly $400,000 (or 1 billion Tanzanian shillings) if the national team wins the tournament. This announcement sent a wave of positive energy through the squad.

"This isn't just another tournament. It's a chance to make history. Thanks to this promise, every player feels even more invested," said national coach Hemed Suleiman.

A convincing start against Burkina Faso

Buoyed by the presidential incentive, Tanzania kicked off their campaign in style with a 2-0 victory over Burkina Faso in Dar es Salaam. Enough to fuel big ambitions for the rest of the competition.

For this first-ever edition of CHAN held in East Africa, Tanzania is determined to shine on home soil. And the Tanzanian government is sparing no effort to create an environment conducive to top performance. With nearly $400,000 up for grabs, the Taifa Stars have an extra motivation to chase the very first CHAN title in their history. Now, the ball is in their court.
