Clubs in the Championship will be continuing to pursue their respective targets to ensure they are as strong as they can be during the second half of the season.
Different clubs are in different financial situations though, with the likes of Leicester City and Southampton likely to have plenty to spend after cashing in on key players during the summer transfer window.
Others, including Queens Park Rangers, may need to be more careful as they look to remain within financial limits and ensure their expenditure is limited in case they end up in League One next season.
Some clubs may have to wait until the latter stages of the window for targets to become unavailable - but other teams are making moves now.
Plymouth Argyle and Huddersfield Town have been particularly busy - and plenty of their league rivals will be envious of them - especially those who failed to secure a single recruit yet.
However, there's still plenty of time left in the window and we take a look at some of the latest second-tier transfer headlines.
According to TEAMtalk, Hull City are currently the leaders in the race for Luton Town full-back Ryan Giles.
They aren't short of competition for the ex-Middlesbrough loanee's signature, with Cardiff City and Leeds United also believed to be keen on the 23-year-old.
However, the Tigers seem to have plenty of pulling power with the likes of Billy Sharp and Fabio Carvalho joining this month.
Carvalho was a particularly good signing and they beat plenty of teams to sign him, so they may be confident about getting a deal over the line, although Luton are reluctant to let go of him.
Leeds are in the race to recruit Everton defender Ben Godfrey, according to a report from Calcio Mercato.
The Whites didn't generate a huge amount in player sales during the summer, but they haven't signed anyone this month and Godrey could potentially be one of their only additions if he arrived.
Leeds don't require a central defender at the moment, but Charlie Cresswell's potential departure could make a signing in this area necessary and the Toffees' man can also operate at full-back.
This is definitely a position that needs to be strengthened.

The Football League Paper [21st January, page 8] (via West Ham Zone) believes top-tier team West Ham are interested in Ipswich Town left-back Leif Davis.
Davis initially dropped down to League One before being promoted with the Tractor Boys, playing a key role under Kieran McKenna last term.
He has also been a valuable asset this season, recording 12 assists in 24 league appearances.
Considering he had to make the jump up to the second tier, that is a mightily impressive record and he may only be at Portman Road for a limited amount of time if he can carry that on.
However, he has the chance to secure back-to-back promotions in Suffolk and staying at his current club may be wise.
West Bromwich Albion have been named in a Corriere Della Sera report (via Sport Witness) as an interested team in Birmingham City starlet Jordan James.
However, it would be difficult to see the Baggies coming up with the amount that's needed to lure the Wales international away from St Andrew's.
They also face a huge amount of competition for his signature, with Brentford, Brighton and Hove Albion, Newcastle United, Atalanta and Fiorentina also being linked with a move for the 19-year-old.
Aston Villa have launched another offer for Middlesbrough star Morgan Rogers, according to the Independent.
The ex-Man City player is on the move.
