Cardiff City have reportedly enquired over a deal to bring Liverpool winger Harry Wilson back to the club next season on loan.

According to Wales Online, Cardiff are keen on signing Wilson on loan for another season as they attempt to build a squad ready to attack the Championship.

The report claims, however, that a deal for the Welsh international appears unlikely at this stage, with Wilson set to return to Liverpool this summer.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Wilson has already proven that he is a quality option at Championship level. The winger has spent three separate loan spells in the second tier and has scored 29 and assisted 19 across those three campaigns for Hull, Derby and Cardiff. This means that a move back to the Championship may not be a worthwhile move for Wilson as it is a sideways step into a league where he may not have much left to learn, given the level of performance he has already achieved in the division. The step up to the Premier League could be one that he is now ready to face following another season in the Championship with Cardiff.

The report does state that a return to Cardiff is unlikely and that could be due to the reason we have mentioned. Wilson could feel that he deserves another crack at playing in the Premier League, whether that is with Liverpool or with another club. If he is not going to be in Jurgen Klopp’s plans then an exit – either on loan or permanently – could be on the cards. It will be interesting to see if any Premier League clubs follow Cardiff’s suit and start making enquiries about Wilson and how Liverpool will view them if they do.
