Ready? Let’s count down the top five …

5: Cristiano Ronaldo (Marseille v Real Madrid, 2009)

At first glance this looks like the goalkeeper could have done better. At second glance you realise two goalkeepers wouldn’t have saved it.

4: Hugo Almeida (Inter v Porto, 2005)

It’s a good job the net caught this one because it might have killed someone in the crowd otherwise.

3: Paulo Dybala (Juventus v Atletico Madrid, 2019)

We still have no idea how on earth he managed to get it in from that angle.

2: Juninho Pernambucano (Bayern Munich v Lyon, 2003)

This is somehow an even better Juninho free-kick than the one that was in yesterday’s list. Incredible stuff.

1: Lionel Messi (Barcelona v Liverpool, 2019)

There you have it, the greatest free-kick in Champions League history.

We will never tire of watching it and after the way the second leg panned out, even Liverpool fans can appreciate it now too.
