A return to the Bernabéu was marked with a vintage performance from the Champions League specialist.

Navas made 10 saves and kept PSG in the game, showing Madrid what they’re missing.

Defence

Serge Aurier (Tottenham)

One goal, one assist. It’s early days but few expected Aurier to benefit so much from José Mourinho’s arrival. But here we are.

Diego Godín (Inter)

Godín was at his incredible rock solid best as Slavia Prague kept coming at Inter. The Uruguayan won an astounding eight of nine attempted tackles in his side’s 3-1 win.

Sven Bender (Bayer Leverkusen)

Strong in the air, calm in possession, and (out of nowhere) a superb left-foot volley. What a performance.

Wendell (Bayer Leverkusen)

And alongside Bender, Wendell was equally impressive in Bayer Leverkusen’s crucial win in Moscow, winning possession an astounding 22 times.

Midfield

Enock Mwepu (RB Salzburg)

The Zambian grabbed two assists for Salzburg on Wednesday but it was his ability to cover ground and win loose balls that was most impressive. Remember the name.

Corentin Tolisso (Bayern Munich)

A dominant midfield showing, Tolisso was at his very best in a more free role against Red Star, adding his second Champions League goal and third Champions League assist of the season

Toni Kroos (Real Madrid)

Back to his brilliant best, Kroos controlled proceedings against Paris Saint-Germain. This sort of calm passing display is exactly what you expect from the German.

Attack

Lionel Messi (Barcelona)

Wow, just wow. Messi completed 11 dribbles on Wednesday, the most of any player in a Champions League game this season. Of Barcelona’s 13 shots, he took five and set up another four. One goal, one assist.

Simply unstoppable, the only blemish was a booking for a dive. Less of that, please.

Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)

Four goals in 14 minutes is the sort of hot streak only Lewandowski seems capable of. Far and away the best striker on the planet right now.

Romelu Lukaku (Inter)

Another incredible performance, this may be looked back on as the night Lukaku really announced himself at Inter. He netted once, had two disallowed by VAR, and assisted twice. If you’ve not seen his outside-of-the-boot cross for Lautaro Martínez, do yourself a favour right now.
