The race for the Champions League positions grew even tighter in Serie A after the 32nd round of 2024-25 fixtures over the weekend, and now just eight points separates six teams between fourth and ninth place with six games left to play.

There is still one game to go in the 32nd round of Serie A fixtures, as second-placed Napoli host relegation-threatened Empoli at the Stadio Maradona on Monday night. The Partenopei are edging closer to mathematically securing their place in the top four. Not even the leaders, Inter, have a top-four spot wrapped up just yet.

There were, however, another series of twists and turns in the race for European places in Serie A over the weekend after Juventus beat Lecce 2-1 at home, Atalanta beat Bologna in a six-pointer, while Lazio and Roma were held level at 1-1 in the Derby della Capitale on Sunday evening.

The results mean that there are just eight points separating six teams in Serie A: Juventus in fourth (59 points), Bologna in fifth (57 points), Lazio in sixth (56 points), Roma in seventh (54 points), Fiorentina in eighth (53 points) and Milan in ninth (51 points).

With Atalanta chucked in the mix, there are 10 points separating seven teams near the top of the table. La Dea are currently third with 61 points, and picked up their first win in four league matches with the victory over Bologna on Sunday.

As things stand, it is likely that Italy will receive four spots in next season’s Champions League, rather than the five the federation received for 2024-25.
