Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is reportedly attracting serious interest ahead of the summer transfer window.

Following a recent report from the Guardian that Mainoo was looking likely to reject contract offers at Old Trafford, he’s now being linked with Real Madrid.

That report suggested Mainoo could be on the market for around £70m, and now Spanish outlet Fichajes are claiming that Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on the England international’s situation.

“If you ever think about doing something like that again, your backside will be OUT that door before it touches the ground!” – which former Man Utd star almost got kicked out by Fergie?

Los Blancos could do with strengthening their midfield depth for next season, with Mainoo likely to be seen as a considerable upgrade on Dani Ceballos.

Mainoo has shone for Man Utd and losing him would be a big blow, though there would be huge profit to be made from selling an academy player for £70m.

Kobbie Mainoo to Real Madrid for the next chapter of his career?

Still, many United fans will be disappointed if a homegrown player like Mainoo ends up leaving so early on in his career, before they’ve even seen the best of him.

It seems clear that the 19-year-old has a big future in the game, and we’ve only really seen glimpses of that so far.

It would be smart business by Madrid to snap Mainoo up amid this uncertainty over his future, with Los Blancos doing well in recent times to bring in some of the game’s finest young talents.

Others like Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga and Endrick all joined before reaching their peak years.

This is quite the contrast from the Galactico era at the Bernabeu, when the club would often splash crazy amounts of cash on the very biggest names in world football.

Mainoo is another youngster with the potential to get there one day, though, so he should fit in well alongside the other emerging superstars in the Spanish capital.
