Champions League draw: Chelsea face Madrid in quarters as Guardiola returns to Bayern | OneFootball

Chelsea will play holders Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, while Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will return to Bayern Munich.

The draw for the last eight and last four of the competition was made on Friday.

Chelsea and Manchester City were the only Premier League clubs in the pot after Liverpool and Tottenham were eliminated by Real Madrid and AC Milan, respectively.

The first team picked out was reigning European champions Real Madrid, who will face Graham Potter’s side.

Carlo Ancelotti returns to Stamford Bridge once again after knocking the Blues out of the competition last season.

The first leg will take place in Spain.

Inter Milan were then drawn against Benfica, meaning at least one underdog will be in the semi-finals.

Elsewhere, Manchester City will face Bayern Munich.

City boss Guardiola will also be returning to an old side after his side were drawn against the Bundesliga champions in the quarter-final draw – where on-loan City defender Joao Cancelo could face his parent club.

The Etihad Stadium will host the first tie, with unbeaten City aiming to win their first-ever European Cup and on the back of Erling Haaland’s five goals in their 7-0 thrashing of RB Leipzig.

Finally, AC Milan will play Napoli in an all-Serie A tie.

AC Milan or Napoli will face Inter or Benfica in the last four, meaning the other semi will be between the winners of Chelsea vs Real Madrid and Manchester City vs Bayern Munich.

This means that if City are to win their first European Cup, they will have to overcome Bayern and then potentially Premier League rivals Chelsea in a repeat of the 2021 final in which Kai Havertz scored the only goal of the game for the London club.

The first legs of the last eight will be played on the 11th and 12th of April, with the second legs to commence in the following week.
