CF Montreal have extended the contract of defender Zachary Brault-Guillard, keeping him at the Canadian MLS side through the end of the 2023 season with two additional options for 2024 and 2025.

“After having seen Zachary log many minutes last season, which was new to him, the club sought to find a way to keep him with us longer,” CF Montréal Sporting Director Olivier Renard said in a statement.

“We are pleased that he chose to accept these additional option years so he may continue his development in Montreal.”

The defender first joined Montreal in 2019, on loan from Olympique Lyonnais before securing a permanent transfer to the club in 2020. He initially signed a two-year contract, but will now stay through 2023.

He’s made four appearances this season for the club and 68 overall, recording three goals and five assists.

The defender also has six caps for the Canadian national team after debuting in 2018 against Dominica in a Concacaf Nations League qualifier. He scored his first international goal in a 7-0 win against Aruba in a 2022 World Cup qualifier on June 6, 2021.
