AC Milan would see their revenue vastly increase if things were to go their way in the final match of the group stage of the Champions League, a report has revealed.

The win against Atletico Madrid thanks to the goal scored by the Brazilian Junior Messias last night allows the Rossoneri to dream that they can still reach the knockout round of the Champions League, but they must win the last home match against Liverpool and hope for the right result in Porto.

Calcio e Finanza writes that qualification would be important from a sporting point of view, but also from an economic point of view as the cash prize collected vastly increases by making it through to the last 16.

Milan are already guaranteed €15.64m from the participation bonus and €17.1m for their ten-year ranking. The first share of the market pool has also been defined – based on the position achieved in Serie A in 2020/21 – which brings in another €6m.

The report goes on to estimate the minimum that Milan would make assuming that they make it into the last 16 but are eliminated. If they go further, of course, they will earn more.

Participation bonus (€m): 15.64 Historical ranking: 17.1 Bonus results: 6.53* Market pool: 16 Market pool: 2 (minimum) to 3.5 Eighth bonus: 9.6 Total: €58.37m

*with a win over Liverpool

The market pool is dependant on how far other Italian teams make it in the competition. The minimum is €2m but if the other Italian sides get through their group and one makes it to the semi-finals, it will become €3.5m.
