The Italian coach is yet to to go public or tell his players because he has not yet discussed it with club chiefs.

Azpilicueta is in pole position for the role having captained the club to their impressive start to the season though talisman Hazard has also been under serious consideration.

According to the Telegraph, the club feel giving the responsibility to their star man could persuade him to sign a new contract though the Belgian is unconcerned about whether he is given the captaincy or not.

Azpilicueta, on the other hand, is keen to keep hold of the armband and even wore it after he had removed his shirt following Saturday’s draw with Liverpool. After the game, he conducted six interviews and it is understood he is relishing the extra responsibility.

The move for a new captain comes with last season’s skipper Gary Cahill not featuring under the new regime.
