On 14 minutes, the man of the hour rolled back the years by pulling off a superb save with his foot to deny James Forrest the opener after he was picked out brilliantly by Matt O’Riley in space inside the area.

But there was nothing Boruc could do to keep out the opener shortly afterwards as a ball over the top was met by a stunning first time finish on the volley by Reo Hatate over his shoulder and into the far corner.

Celtic then hit the post twice in the space of 30 seconds as impressive midfield duo O’Riley and Callum McGregor both rattled the woodwork with the legendary goalkeeper beaten.

After O’Riley hit the post for a third time via a header, Celtic did get their second before the break as their Japanese connection combined, Hatate teeing up Daizen Maeda, playing in the central striker role, to calmly tuck home.

Maciej Rosołek pulled one back for the hosts within moments of the restart after Cameron Carter-Vickers failed to deal with a long ball over the top from Legia’s replacement goalkeeper for Boruc, allowing the Warsaw man in to beat Scott Bain.

And with Celtic having made a number of changes which stunted much of their first half intensity, they conceded another on 66 minutes when Josué picked out the corner with a well-taken volley from the edge of the area to ensure a second successive 2-2 draw for the Scottish champions before an emotional Boruc returned to the field for the final seconds to take in a well-earned applause from both sets of fans.
