Kicker presently links Celtic Glagow attacker Nicolas Kühn with a return to his old RB Leipzig. Previous reports suggesting the 25-year-old might be headed to the Bundesliga this summer surfaced in the Scottish Sun earlier this month. Kicker’s confirmation of the rumors lends the whispers some extra credence.
Kühn – a former German youth international – has never been shy about expressing the desire to return to his native country and enhance his prospects of playing for the German national team. The Scottish champions should also be keen to cash in on the €12m-valued-player they once paid €3.5m for.
The Scottish paper notes that other unnamed Bundesliga clubs are interested in Kühn. Leipzig’s pursuit of their former player is also hampered by the fact that they will not be playing in Europe next season and still haven’t gotten their head-coaching situation sorted out.
Kühn maintains the chance to play Champions League football for Celtic next season. One surmises that the only things drawing the former RB academy man to the German Red Bulls would be a hefty pay raise and a chance to raise his profile in a familiar environment.
Kühn worked in the Leipzig, Hannover 96, and FC St. Pauli academies before heading to Ajax’s academy in January 2020. He made his professional debut in the Dutch second tier and later accrued some 3. Liga and 2. Bundesliga experience whilst on loan with the Bayern reserves and Erzgebirge Aue.
Capped 32 times at Germany U20 level and below, Kühn still hasn’t made a German top flight appearance. The hope of achieving this goal might serve as another motivating factor for him to make the move to RB.
