Celtic’s UEFA Champions League rivals Young Boys have decided to sack their manager after a dismal start to the season. The Swiss side are currently bottom of their league despite involvement in the UCL meaning that they will have a new manager in the dugout when they visit Celtic Park in January.

Patrick Rahman has been relieved of his duties following a disastrous start to his tenure. Despite only being appointed in May, the 55-year-old has been dismissed. Joel Magnin has been installed as the interim boss as he looks to stake a claim for the job in his own right. Magnin took charge towards the end of last season, which helped the Berne club towards a title.

YB’s sporting director Christoph Spycher said: “After extensive discussions and analyses, we came to the conclusion that a change is needed.

“Our situation as bottom of the table after nine rounds is extremely disappointing.”

Magnin will now look to bring about a change in form for Young Boys and address this alarming start to the season. The benefit to this is that the Swiss side may be more inclined to shelve their European ambitions.

This is the second of Celtic’s UCL opponents that have sacked their manager. Last month, Dinamo Zagreb decided to sack Sergei Jankovic after the 9-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in their Champions League opener. Nenad Bjelica is back in charge after a period in charge of Union Berlin.
