Celtic ‘were really hopeful’ of signing Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Christopher Scott, but it now looks like he is set to stay in Germany, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The Hoops have been linked with a move for the 20-year-old in recent weeks as he edged towards the Allianz Arena exit door and Ange Postecoglou plots the next steps in his rebuilding project.
Back in March, well-respected reporter Florian Plettenberg revealed that Scott wanted to extend his stay at Bayern beyond the summer of 2022 when his contract was due to expire.
Plettenberg also claimed, though, that the youngster wanted to play regularly and that talks with Premier League outfit Brentford and Celtic were due to take place.
However, Sky Sports Germany (via Football Scotland) have now provided an update on Scott’s situation, disclosing that Bayern have triggered a contract extension, ensuring they receive a transfer fee for him.
The same outlet state that the in-demand gem has since handed in a transfer request and is eager to stay in his homeland at this moment in time.
Bundesliga.2 outfit Fortuna Dusseldorf are said to have opened talks already for Scott, meaning Postecoglou may be forced to move on to other targets as he searches for Tom Rogic’s successor.
Jones informed GiveMeSport that Celtic ‘were definitely looking’ into a potential deal for Scott although their prospects of securing his signature are no longer looking good.

He told GMS: “They were really hopeful, but I think he’s signed an extension, which is a bit tough on them really.
“The likelihood now is that he stays in Germany a little while longer. Celtic were definitely looking into it, but it didn’t look good the last time I spoke to someone about it.”
Scott racked up seven goals and provided a further six assists in 24 appearances for Bayern Munich II throughout 2021/22, indicating Celtic have missed out on a promising young talent.
Nevertheless, Postecoglou could still bring some exciting stars to the club ahead of next season when Champions League football is set to return to Parkhead.
