Celtic vs Real Madrid: Fans drown out Champions League anthem with thunderous roar | OneFootball

Champions League nights are back at Celtic Park and boy have they been missed.

The Scottish champions made their long-awaited return to Europe’s premier club competition with a clash against continental royalty in Real Madrid.

The reigning champions arrived at the historic old Glasgow stadium as the first Champions League competitors since 2017/18.

Naturally, those famous fans were desperate to make quite a night of it and were in full, thunderous voice long before kick-off.

However, that riot of noise reached peak crescendo in the final minutes before the action got underway as fans greeted the Champions League anthem with one of the mightiest roars you could ever hope to hear.

The Celtic faithful near drowned out the tune as they welcomed the Champions League back to their beloved home.

It was a spine-tingling moment and one that will have undoubtedly left an impression on the hearts of those Real Madrid stars who bore witness to it.

Couple the overwhelming noise with some fantastic pyrotechnics from one of the corners of the stadium, and you can’t help but praise the Celtic fans for putting on an incredible show.

Brilliant – just imagine what those Celtic players must have been feeling in that moment.

However, the drowning out of the anthem wasn’t the only moment worthy of praise with the fans also belting out an unbelievable rendition of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.

The well-known song has echoed out of Celtic Park for years but never has it sounded quite like this as every fan in the building sung out at the tops of their voices.

The support seemed to work a trick as Celtic managed to hold their much-fancied opponents to a stalemate at half-time with Calum McGregor rattling the upright in the 20th minute.

Sadly, they could not hold out much longer as Vinicius Junior broke the deadlock in the second stanza to give kick-start the reigning champions’ campaign.

The Spanish giants then doubled that lead through the evergreen Luka Modric as they poured brutal helping of cold water on the Celtic party.
