Celtic try to disrupt Rangers on Old Firm week with a ‘Mojo’ | OneFootball

There’s definitely something amusing about the mischievous story in the press on the eve of the Old Firm, whereby the Daily Record claim Celtic are making a move for former Rangers goalkeeper Liam Kelly.

It’s a very funny and different way for the media to try to create further tension, especially for Rangers, by alleging Celtic are looking at signing him following his falling through Rangers’ fingers.

But, of course, he didn’t, did he?

Ibrox Noise, like many Rangers fan groups and supporters, reckoned Rangers were 100% grooming Kelly to replace Allan McGregor, with Robby McCrorie in the background too.

Why? His impressive loan spell at Livingston, who back then were one of Scotland’s stronger teams.

When Kelly ended up switching to Mark Warburton’s Queens Park Rangers based on that Livi form, it has to be said many Rangers fans felt we’d lost one there.

As it turns out, Kelly, 28, hasn’t come close to fulfilling the ‘potential’ he had and has become very much a bog-standard goalie whose QPR stint ended quick and found himself at Motherwell ever since.

So this nature of this mischief-making is very curious.

It’s not unsettling any Rangers players or the manager, it’s just making an eyebrow raise on the fans as much as anything.

Are Celtic really interested? Wouldn’t be the first time they’ve gone after one of us just to try to unsettle us, but the timing is clear – they’re trying to create a little bit of distraction and unsettling controversy on Old Firm week, timed for maximum effect just two days before the big match.

They or the media are anyway – nothing quite like Celtic being interested in an ex-Rangers player two days before the Old Firm match to try to disrupt things a little bit.

To take Rangers’ eye off the ball.

In truth, Rangers’ eye doesn’t seem to have been ON the ball in a while so we’re not sure what difference it makes but whatever floats your boat, right?

Either way, it would make no difference to Rangers if Celtic signed him, none at all. But the Scottish media does like its controversy.

Mojo? Not a chance.
