Celtic will have to part with £14 million to sign Brondby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden during the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.

Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers wants the 22-year-old at the Parkhead club to replace the departed Kyogo Furuhashi, and he remains eager to move to the Scottish Premiership club having been in the past.

However, Brondby are reluctant to sell Kvistgaarden right now unless Celtic and his other suitors can break their previous transfer record.

The Bhoys and the Danish Superliga are a distance apart in their valuations, and it remains to be seen whether Celtic are planning on breaking their current transfer record – the £11m they spent on midfielder Arne Engels last summer anytime soon.

Kvistgaarden has 14 goals in 22 appearances so far in 2024-25 and could be perfect for the Hoops in their search for a new number 9, but it would take top dollar to lure Brondby into parting with such a prized asset.

Celtic wanted him last summer and last January, but they could not agree on a fee with his club and are facing the same battle at the moment.

Despite signing Jota from Rennes in return for Kyogo, the Parkhead club need more attacking options for the second half of the campaign, and a quality striker has to be signed.

They may need to break the bank for their top target or move on to other cheaper options, and they do not have plenty of time left in the January transfer window to get that done.
