According to Anel Avdic of Sport Expressen, Celtic’s latest bid stands at €4.5 million (around SEK 50 million) with potential add-ons that could see the total package rise to SEK 60 million. Here’s what was reported –

‘Celtic have made a new, increased bid for Hammarby’s Sebastian Tounekti. The bid is €4.5 million, equivalent to SEK 50 million plus bonuses – with the deal potentially rising to a total of SEK 60 million if everything goes through.’

This follows earlier reports from journalist David Friel, who indicated that Celtic initially lodged a bid in the region of £1 million, while Hammarby were understood to be holding out for closer to £1.8 million. But whilst the player target was accurate, SkySports had claimed Celtic’s bid was actually £2.8m but had to be increased substantially, and it seems now it has.

The discrepancy between valuations across different outlets highlights the ongoing negotiation process, but Celtic’s increased offer signals a genuine intent to secure the 23-year-old’s signature.

Tounekti has been one of Hammarby’s bright sparks this season, contributing three goals and five assists. Predominantly a left winger with excellent ball-carrying abilities, he is also capable of operating on the right, providing a level of versatility. While his finishing may still need refinement, his age and development trajectory suggest room for further development.

The timing of the bid could also be significant. With the club reportedly on the verge of letting winger Yang move to Birmingham City before Monday’s transfer deadline, Celtic may be looking to secure a ready-made replacement to maintain depth and attacking potency on the flanks.

Recent reports from Sky Sports Anthony Joseph indicates that Birmingham have offered £1.5 million for Yang, which aligns with Celtic’s push to strengthen their wing options in the wake of potential departures.

Tounekti represents an intriguing target for Celtic. He’s a young, versatile winger with promising numbers in Sweden’s Allsvenskan, good underlying stats, and capable of slotting in immediately while offering long-term potential.

The coming days are likely to reveal whether Celtic can finalise a deal and add another attacking threat to Brendan Rodgers squad.

Overdue as this all may be, it is also very welcome.
