The visitors, fresh from victory in this fixture in the league in midweek, almost took the lead inside the opening 30 seconds when Reo Hatate’s blistering drive was met by a strong save from Zander Clark but Hearts failed to heed that warning and within 110 seconds, did have the opener.

Jota pounced on a loose ball down the right and picked out Aaron Mooy in the centre, with the in-form Australian supplying a fine first time finish for his seventh goal for the Hoops.

The Hearts response was good and midway through the half they came close to an equaliser only for Joe Hart to put his body on the line and pull off two heroic low saves to his left before Clark pulled off another impressive block at the other end to keep Hatate at bay.

But on the stroke of half-time he was beaten again by a glorious finish as Kyogo claimed his 10th goal from his last 11 games with a delightful back-heel flick from close range, steering into the corner to put his side in command.

After the break, Clark again stood tall for the hosts to keep out a stinging close-range Jota effort before Cameron Carter-Vickers made sure of a return to Hampden with 10 minutes remaining by heading home from Matt O’Riley’s free-kick.

With a nine-point lead in the league and the League Cup in the bag already for Ange Postecoglou’s side, ambitions of yet another treble remain very much alive.
