The Celtic academy graduate has enjoyed somewhat of a renaissance down the road at the Hawthorne since leaving Parkhead on a short-term basis in the January transfer window of this year.

Never really managing to grab the bull by the horns at his boyhood heroes, the Republic of Ireland international has been a sporadic figure at Celtic Park, despite such a promising start to life at the Scottish Premiership Champions a few years ago. His inconsistency has not been helped at all due to his repetitive and persistent injury woes that have undoubtedly hampered his progress since he was just a youngster.

Now at 25, it really is make-or-break time for Mikey and a move away does look the most viable option, considering the inability to bring it altogether when he has the weight of that green and white jersey on his shoulders. A fruitful few months in the English Championship has alerted many to his talents and Carlos Corberan is just one of a number of coaches looking to land the player this summer transfer window.

With 7 goals and two assists in his 20 appearances for the Baggies, he’s proven he is capable of strutting his stuff on a regular basis in England’s second division. Celtic have been mindful of this and have reportedly slapped a cool £6 million price-tag on his head as a result of his performances down south in the second half of the season, and with him still having two years to run on his current deal, according to Football Insider.

That kind of fee would be some return for the club and if they wish to chase Adam Idah of Norwich City, Johnston’s potential sale could provide the majority of the funds for such a move when the transfer window opens up this month. Of course, that situation is still fluid at this moment in time and nobody knows if his incoming manager, Johannes Hoff Thorup, will want to keep him around to help aid his assault at the Championship next term.
