Celtic remain top after Rangers narrowly win against Aberdeen

Celtic remain top of the Cinch Premiership after Rangers failed to win by the requisite scoreline against Aberdeen. Phillipe Clement’s team knew they would go top if they were to win by a three-goal margin against the visitors from Pittodrie.

Rangers benefited from two goalkeeping errors from Roos in the Dons net to twice take the lead with Rabbi Matondo and then Todd Cantwell netting. Reported Celtic target Bojan Miovski pulled Aberdeen level on the stroke of half time with a scrappy but clinical finish. The North Macedonian striker was played through by a lofted pass, allowing him to outmuscle Connor Goodson before lifting the ball over Jack Butland. The Dons may feel hard done by that Goldson wasn’t penalised for two handballs in the closing stages.

Celtic must now take advantage of this and show their teeth against Hibernian at Easter Road tomorrow. The Scottish Champions have not shown themselves to be at their clinical best across this season and this would be the perfect time to start a run of wins. Rodgers will know that he needs to mastermind seven wins in a row before the teams meet, which will contributory massively to whether Celtic retain the title or not.

Before the teams face up again in the Glasgow Derby, Celtic have four away games and three home games in the league – Hibs (A), Kilmarnock (H), Motherwell (A), Motherwell (A), Dundee (H), Hearts (A), St Johnstone (H), Livingston (A) and then Ibrox. Meanwhile, Rangers have four home games and three away games – Ross County (H), St Johnstone (A), Hearts (H), Kilmarnock (A), Motherwell (H), Dundee (A), Hibernian (H) before Brendan Rodgers’ side look to make it three wins on the bounce against the Ibrox side.
