Celtic received £509k from FIFA owing to their players’ participation in the Qatar World Cup last year. The Scottish Champions had representatives at the showpiece event with Cameron Carter-Vickers (USA), Aaron Mooy (Australia), Josip Juranovic (Croatia) and Daizen Maeda (Japan) all involved.

The figures were published confirming that Celtic had received the largest contribution from FIFA owing to the fact that they had the most successful contingent, with all making it out of the groups.

Total FIFA World Cup payouts to SPFL clubs:

Celtic – $664,326, Rangers – $414,291, Hearts – $325,775, Dundee United – $242,734, Hibs – $229,959, St Johnstone – $208,058, St Mirren – $76,653. Total – $2,161,796.

Elsewhere, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed that Mikey Johnston would miss up to three months after suffering a back injury. The winger spent last season on loan in Portugal with Vitoria and seemed to get the regular football he was craving.

Rodgers, who handed Johnston his debut during his first stint, was asked about whether Johnston was ready to feature for him on a regular basis and delivered confirmation of a further spell on the sidelines.

“His job is to convince myself and the coaches that he is ready for a place. Sadly for Mikey he is going to be out for a few more months.

“He had an issue with his back, sadly, so he’ll probably be out for near on three months. But it’s the players’ responsibility and they have to show the quality and consistency and robustness in order to play and that is the job of every player.”
