Luca Connell is still on his scholarship contract at Bolton Wanderers and could be available this summer for a small tribunal fee.
According to the Daily Record, Celtic and Rangers will battle a host of English squads in order to secure the defensive midfielder’s services.
The 18-year-old was called into the Ireland squad for the first time for their Euro 2020 qualifiers against Gibraltar and Denmark but left training camp due to injury.
Prior to his knock, Ireland manager Mick McCarthy planned on making him a fully-fledged international.
“I asked him: ‘If I put you on for three minutes, in one of the games, somewhere down the line, would you be peeved with me or do you want to play for Ireland?’ And he said: ‘I want to play for Ireland, that’s what I want to do.’”
Connell made his professional debut for Bolton in January and made 12 appearances for the recently-relegated club, including nine starts.
Sheffield United, Leeds United, Wolves, and Norwich City are also said to be interested in the youngster.
