Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou being on Leicester City’s shortlist would not be ‘very welcome’ at Parkhead, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Hoops lost previous manager Brendan Rodgers to the Foxes back in February 2019, and now their current boss could be in line to replace him at the King Power Stadium.

Postecoglou has enjoyed a successful stint in the Celtic dugout, guiding them to the Scottish Premiership title and League Cup glory in his maiden campaign at the club.

And the Greek-Australian tactician has already seen his side open up a healthy lead at the top of the table this time around after seeing off Old Firm rivals Rangers 4-0 while also putting in a couple of solid displays in the Champions League.

However, Postecoglou’s success has seen him linked with a move to the Premier League with the vacancy at Brighton & Hove Albion causing the most speculation at present.

The 56-year-old labelled talk over a potential switch to the Amex Stadium irrelevant when asked about the rumours, though, but didn’t completely shut down the prospect.

“It’s not really relevant in my world or in my space,” said Postecoglou. “I have done that my whole career, I have just focused on being as successful as I can for the club I represent.

What has Jones said about Postecoglou?

Rodgers is currently struggling at Leicester, but Jones believes if the Midlands outfit try to prise a second Celtic manager away mid-season, it could prove to be a ‘risky and dangerous’ strategy.

He told GiveMeSport: “In terms of who they would look at next, Postecoglou potentially being a guy in the frame. That’s not going to be very welcome at Celtic.

“It took the fans a long time to cool down after Brendan Rodgers left. So, to see that scenario repeated will seem a little bit risky and dangerous. I’m not sure that’s something that’s going to turn out too well for Leicester.”

Would Postecoglou be tempted to depart?

Managing in the Premier League would always be a tempting and exciting prospect for any manager given the quality and prestige of the competition.

Nevertheless, Postecoglou has only been at Celtic Park for just over a year and has the opportunity to claim plenty more silverware, manage in the Champions League and write his name into the folklore of the club.

If he continues to impress north of the border, then opportunities to move down south will keep coming for Postecoglou, but he may be better off staying put for the time being.

Celtic are a huge club in their own right, and guiding them to league titles, cups and success in Europe may enhance his reputation further than keeping the likes of Brighton and Leicester afloat in the Premier League.
