Celtic player slammed then celebrated by fans during St Mirren game

It is safe to say that Celtic had a tougher test away against St Mirren than most would have expected, as the hosts proved to be a resilient side. It is easy to see why they were able to get the better of the Rangers not too long ago, which ultimately resulted in the sacking of Philippe Clement. And they gave the Hoops a real scare as well.

For a long time, it looked like this game was headed for a draw. So, it goes without saying the Celtic fans were not particularly happy with the performance from the team.

At the end of the day, the expectation is for Celtic to win almost every game, whether it be at home or away. And one player who was heavily criticised by the supporters throughout the game was Reo Hatate.

Hatate has been on-and-off throughout the season. He puts in brilliant performances from time-to-time. But then, there are also those matches where he looks completely lost. This was the latter and the Celtic fans were not pleased at all with what they were seeing from the Japanese midfielder.

Players like Hatate always have that moment of magic in them though. And the Japanese midfielder provided the assist for the Yang Hyun-jun that sent Celtic ahead.

After the changes were made, he looked like a completely different player and was one of the major reasons behind Celtic going home with a victory. And one now has to wonder whether it is the midfield combination that has been holding him back.

Talk about completely changing the opinion of the supporters within the space of minutes. This game was almost a miniature version of Hatate's season. He looks terrible one day, world-class the next. If he wants to play at the top level though, he will need to find some consistency.
