Celtic 2-1 RB Leipzig. Brendan Rodgers’ side kept their hopes of Europa League knockouts alive defeating Ralf Ragnick’s Leipzig. It was the Germans first ever trip to Celtic Park since their inception in 2009. The match was home to Celtic’s new much talked about discolights which cost the club the best part of £2 million.

Four years ago today, Motherwell 1-4 Celtic. Enormous pressure had been building on Celtic boss Neil Lennon heading into this match at Fir Park. The Hoops had won one game in six which included a sore defeat to theRangers at Celtic Park in the first Glasgow Derby of the season, a calamitous defensive showing at Pittodrie where the Hoops dropped more points and a 4-1 thumping blow versus Sparta Prague in the Europa League.

A pattern was starting to emerge around where Celtic’s crucial 10 in a row season was going. However, Mohammed Elyounoussi, who was Lennon’s only real shining light during a disastrous campaign bagged a hat-trick. Elyounoussi repaid the manager after the Norwegian was controversially caught on his phone after being substituted in Celtic’s humiliating loss against Sparta Prague at Parkhead three days prior to the trip in North Lanarkshire.

Hamilton 1-2 Celtic. Accies were nine minutes away from pulling off an almighty shock against the current Scottish champions which would have secured their first victory in 16 games in the easily forgettable 1986/1987 league campaign. Though, Brian McClair’s penalty followed by Judas’ winner with a minute of normal time remaining meant the Hoops had snatched all three points at New Douglas Park.

Judas scoring the winning goal at tough domestic away grounds under Davie Hay seemed to be a familiar theme during the early parts of the trophyless 86/87 season. Judas had also netted crucial winners versus Clydebank and Falkirk in league encounters before a trip to Lanarkshire.

21 years ago today, Celtic 5-0 Dunfermline. Martin O’Neill’s high-flyers had started the 2003/2004 season in imperious fashion. The Hoops had won their first 10 league matches as they arrived to face Jimmy Calderwood’s impressive Pars in Glasgow’s East End. Celtic had gained huge plaudits after dispatching Belgian champions Anderlecht 3-1 at Paradise on the Wednesday evening prior to O’Neill’s team thumping Dunfermline on the Saturday.

Despite what looks like a comfortable scoreline, for large spells of the match it had been 1-0. But, Celtic scored four goals in the final 10 minutes as Hartson grabbed his double following a well-executed pass from Petrov. Wallace and Varga netted within two minutes of each other with Henrik rounding the scoreline off with a fine header from an acute angle.
