Johnny Campbell scored a hat-trick

SATURDAY 27th MAY 1893 – Celtic win the Glasgow Charity Cup in emphatic style by thumping Rangers 5-0 on a fine day at Celtic Park. It is a glorious victory, all the more memorable because it was done without the injured Sandy McMahon. Johnny Campbell however scores a hat-trick and Jimmy Blessington and Peter Dowds score the others. This win plus that of the Scottish League more than make up for the disappointments in the Glasgow and Scottish Cups this season.

SATURDAY 27th MAY 1995 – Celtic win the Scottish Cup for the 30th time as Pierre van Hooijdonk rises to head home a Tosh McKinlay cross to give Celtic a 1-0 victory against Airdrieonians at a sparsely populated Hampden which is in the throes of re-development. The 36,915 crowd includes the Duchess of Kent who hands the trophy over to a grateful Paul McStay. Celtic’s man of the match is Peter Grant who, although battling against injury, plays his heart out for the club. It is Celtic’s first trophy for six years! It is by no means the best of Celtic’s Scottish Cup victories, but it is much cherished.

SATURDAY 27th MAY 2017 – On a hot humid day punctuated with thunderstorms, Celtic, in Brendan Rodgers’ first year, clinch a treble by beating Aberdeen 2-1 in the Scottish Cup final. Behind to a goal from Johnny Hayes, Celtic scored with a goal from Stuart Armstrong in the first half, then a late winner from Tom Rogic in the middle of a thunderstorm which no-one noticed, such was the excitement!
