Celtic are currently “trying to find out” if there’s any chance of Ange Postecoglou’s side signing Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors and South Korea centre-forward Cho Gue-sung in January, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The striker has been on World Cup duty with the Taeguk Warriors in Qatar, before the national side’s last 16 defeat to Brazil.
In an interview with South Korean media (via the Daily Record), Cho suggested that he will decide on which team in Europe to join based on who can offer the striker the most playing time.
The Jeonbuk star said: “Rather than dreaming of signing for one specific club, for me, being able to play every week is the most important aspect of any move and that’s what will influence me. But I can honestly say there is nothing concrete about a transfer yet.”
The Scottish Sun reported at the end of November that Celtic have joined multiple European clubs in the race for the 24-year-old’s signature in the January transfer market, with the World Cup star having been described as “a real handful” by journalist Pete O’Rourke when speaking to GiveMeSport.
And Jones believes that Celtic are currently looking at if they will be able to bring him to Parkhead this winter, with the answer likely affecting any potential outgoings in the transfer window amid rumours of forward Giorgos Giakoumakis leaving the club for a move to Saudi Arabia.
When asked about the prospect of Celtic signing Cho, Jones told GiveMeSport: “As far as I know, they’re trying to find out right now if there’s any chance all that this can happen in January. If not, it’ll probably affect any outgoing.”

Cho will have dazzled European suitors with his performances at the World Cup in Qatar this winter, having bagged two goals in four appearances according to Transfermarkt.
The forward’s two goals at the tournament came during the same game in which he bagged a brace to bring the scores level at 2-2 against Ghana before the AFC side eventually went on to lose 3-2.
An average WhoScored rating of 6.99 for his showings on the world’s biggest stage ranked the 51-club goal forward as South Korea’s second-best performing player in the Middle East behind Paik Seung-ho, suggesting that a move to Europe may be inevitable after showcasing his talents on a global level.
Postecoglou has already enjoyed success with signings from the Asian continent including that of Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate, and the Australian head coach will back himself to secure another gem in the form of Cho if the club can get a deal over the line.
