Celtic's summer recruitment has been described as "a mess" by journalist Stuart Hodge.

What did Hodge say about Celtic's transfer window?

Having finished 25 points behind Rangers last term, it seemed that Celtic would need to spend big in the recent transfer window if they wanted to bridge the gap to their arch-rivals this time around.

However, they ended up spending just £20m, while they also lost Odsonne Edouard and Kristoffer Ajer, as the duo moved to Crystal Palace and Brentford, respectively.

Hodge was left unimpressed by Celtic's summer business, and has claimed that it is not clear as to who is in charge of transfers at the club.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Celtic still have to go begging for signings, and everything’s done through back channels and backdoors and you don’t know who’s in charge of what. It’s a mess. And it will remain a mess until Celtic decide to change.”

Have any of Celtic's new signings made strong starts?

The main positive for the Hoops has been Kyogo Furuhashi, who joined from Vissel Kobe for a little under £5m. The Japanese international scored a hat-trick on his home debut against Dundee, and looks to be a bargain signing already.

Former Premier League winner Joe Hart has also had a relatively bright start to his time in Scotland, keeping three clean sheets in his five league appearances. He has also been handed the captain's armband for Celtic's last two games, highlighting how he has become a leader in Ange Postecoglou's side.

Have Celtic done enough in the transfer window to close the gap to Rangers?

Right now, it looks like they haven't, as Celtic have already lost three of their six league matches, leaving them sixth in the table. Their away form has been particularly concerning as they have not picked up a single point on the road yet.

However, they have scored 16 goals in Scotland's top-flight - no other side have found the net as often - signalling that they can be a match for anyone when they are in top form.

Meanwhile, Rangers do not look quite as formidable this season. Steven Gerrard's men have already been beaten in the league, and they lost in the Europa League last week against Lyon, showing that they are far from invincible.

Therefore, if Celtic can start to find some consistency, and Postecoglou gets everything out of his limited resources, they could still push Rangers in the title race this year.
