Sinisalo joined Aston Villa back in the summer of 2018, signing from lower league side FC Espoo in his native Finland.

Since then, the goalkeeper has yet to make his senior debut for the Premier League club, although he has featured for their Under 21s in the EFL Trophy, and been out on several loan spells elsewhere.

After stints with Ayr United and Burton Albion, Sinisalo has spent this season on loan with League One side Exeter.

He has been almost ever-present for the Grecians, helping them to a 13th place finish in the League One table.

Now it seems as though those performances this season have started to attract attention from elsewhere, with just a few weeks until the market reopens.

Celtic keen on Viljami Sinisalo

According to this latest update, Celtic are showing an interest in Sinisalo, as they look to bolster their goalkeeping ranks this summer.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is apparently keen to bring in two goalkeepers ahead of next season, and the 22-year-old could be one of them.

However, the Scottish champions may not have it all their own way in their pursuit of the Finland international.

It is thought that a number of Championship clubs are also tracking Sinisalo, and would be keen to sign the Aston Villa man this summer.

As things stand, there is just over a year remaining on the goalkeeper's contract with Villa, securing his future at the club until the end of next season.

That may mean that the summer transfer window could be the club's last chance to cash in on the 22-year-old. It is claimed that he is valued at somewhere in the region of £3million heading into the summer.

Sinisalo an exciting target for interested clubs

It does feel as though these links are encouraging for Celtic, and any Championship club who might also be interested in the signing of Sinisalo.

In the case of the Scottish giants, with Joe Hart retiring and Scott Bain out of contract at the end of this season, they are going to need some goalkeeping reinforcements come the summer.

Sinisalo can help them fill that void between the posts, and, at his age, could develop into an asset for many years to come.

Meanwhile, there are a number of Football League clubs who also look as though they are going to need a goalkeeper in the summer.

As a result, with the level of interest there appears to be in the Finland international, it may be something of a coup for whichever one of them is able to pull this deal off.

However, it would be interesting to see just how a potential valuation of £3million might impact the race for his signature, since some clubs will not view that as a cheap fee.

So, with all that in mind, the situation around Sinisalo could well be something worth keeping a close eye on over the course of the summer.
