According to a report by the official MLS website, Scottish giants Celtic are said to be interested in a summer move for the services of Philadelphia Union’s talented young attacking-midfielder Brenden Aaronson. The player himself has expressed his desire to find a European switch in the years to come, with a flurry of top sides from the continent reportedly keeping close eyes on the forward’s development. The likes of Hoffenheim, Eintracht Frankfurt, Freiburg and Borussia Monchengladbach are all said to be in for the youngster’s signature this summer too.

Although the report has clarified that Celtic are interested in Philadelphia Union’s Brenden Aaronson, interest from Germany and Belgium could overpower their desire. Speaking on the matter, Aaronson said, “I’ve seen some of the stuff going around but that’s just not – I don’t really like to pay attention to that stuff because I’m in a tournament and I want to play the best that I can, and that kind of stuff can get into young kids, but didn’t for me. I think it’s every kid’s dream to go play in Europe and it’s been mine for a long time. I would love to go play there but really right now my main thought is just playing with the team.”

How Has Brenden Aaronson Made A Name For Himself?

The youngster was initially a product of the Philadelphia Union Academy, having joined the club as a kid all those years ago. Apart from two separate loan spells at Bethlehem Steel, Aaronson is yet to play for a team other than the Union, but his recent performances in the MLS Is Back tournament has managed to turn heads all over Europe. The forward started in all six of Union’s games during the competition and even made his national team debut for the United States back in February this year.

Born in October 2000, the 19-year-old first burst onto the scene during the 2019 MLS season, where he went on to make an impressive 28 appearances for the Union. Not only did he develop into a regular feature of the team, but he also began to contribute in key times as well.

The attacker’s three goals and an assist in the competition last season is arguably what began to attract all the attention towards the youngster’s mercurial talents. Aaronson went on to pick up two assists in the recent MLS Is Back tournament as well.

What Makes Aaronson A Good Option For Celtic?

The American is an attacking-midfielder by position and is capable of doing his best work when deployed in a number ten role in behind the main striker. Despite this being his natural position, it must be conceded that the youngster is capable of playing across the front-line.

A willing runner with the ball at his feet, Aaronson boasts excellent control as well as technical ability in possession. Not only does the Union man have the keen eye for a pass, but he’s also capable of producing magical moments in the final third all by himself.

Celtic Are Interested In Philadelphia Union’s Brenden Aaronson: Smart Purchase For Lennon?

Speaking to the MLS, Aaronson himself conceded that Real Madrid star Luka Modric is the player he most looks up to in his position. This alone should be more than enough to tell the Celtic scouts as to exactly what kind of player he is. The youngster has proven himself to be a dependable customer in the United States, but replicating that skill in Europe will be a whole different ball-game. Despite this, the attacker does seem to be the kind of player who can run the show from his position in the core of a team, and such a playmaker is something that Neil Lennon’s Celtic outfit have been calling out for over recent seasons.
