Celtic honoured with a civic reception at Cork City Hall

Celtic Football Club were formally welcomed to Cork on Monday evening as Lord Mayor Fergal Dennehy hosted a civic reception at City Hall, ahead of the Bhoys’ friendly fixture against Cork City in the Cork Super Cup tonight (July 8, KO: 1800).

The event was attended by manager Brendan Rodgers, Cork native Adam Idah, and club captain Callum McGregor, alongside former Celtic captain and club ambassador, Roy Aitken.

It marked a proud moment of recognition for the Scottish champions in a city with deep Celtic connections, and none more so than through hometown hero Idah, who joined the Celts on a permanent basis last season after a successful loan spell.

Speaking at the event, Callum McGregor reflected on the warm welcome extended to the squad: “It’s very special to be here in this building. It’s nice to be a part of it.

“As always with Celtic, it’s such a warm reception in this part of the world. We’re delighted to be here and enjoy the hospitality the guys are putting on.”

The captain also paid tribute to the powerful bond between Celtic and the club’s Irish supporters: “It’s a very special part of the world. The supporters and the connection they have with the club, it’s amazing. It means a lot for us to come here and let them see us live in the flesh.

“Hopefully we’ll have a great game tomorrow, but the reach that Celtic has in this part of the world is incredible.

“I’m actually really privileged to be part of this and be an important figure for the club to come here and represent them in the right way. It’s amazing to be part of it and I’m glad to be here.”

Celtic face Cork City tonight at the historic Páirc Uí Chaoimh, with a great crowd expected to welcome the Champions as they contest the Cork Super Cup.
