Celtic have 'real potential' to 'rekindle' their interest in Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors forward Cho Gue-sung this summer, journalist Pete O'Rourke has informed GIVEMESPORT.

The 25-year-old had shot onto the transfer radar at Parkhead during the January window, owing to some consistent form for his club and country over the last few months.

Celtic Transfer News

Celtic wrapped up four signings in the month of January, bringing Alistair Johnston, Tomoki Iwata, Yuki Kobayashi and Oh Hyeon-gyu in on permanent deals.

Ange Postecoglou also wanted to add Gue-sung into the mix, who was subject to a £3 million bid from the Hoops, according to Sky Sports News. Several other sides from around the world were interested in the 6ft 2in ace, including Mainz, Ferencvaros, Minnesota United and Rangers.

Last month, representatives from Celtic travelled down to London to have further discussions over the deal with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors technical director Ji-Sung Park.

Nevertheless, the prospective transfer was to collapse eventually due to concerns over the fitness of the South Korea international, who is now set to stay in the K League 1 for the time being at least.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Cho Gue-sung?

Journalist Pete O'Rourke believes that Celtic could well 'rekindle' their interest in Gue-sung this summer at Parkhead.

O'Rourke told GMS: "I think there's real potential still there for Celtic to rekindle their interest in him in the summer.

"He's obviously been a target for Ange Postecoglou and just because he can't sign him now, I don't think he will end up finishing his interest in the player as well."

Would Cho Gue-sung be a good signing for Celtic?

Becoming a star in the K League 1, Gue-sung certainly has the prerequisite qualities to thrive for Celtic in both domestic and European competition.

Possessing a poachers instinct coupled with being a physical presence, the 25-year-old is a dangerous prospect for opposition backlines, evidenced in the fact he has 51 career goals and 19 assists across his time in 136 matches, as per Transfermarkt.

Of course, the World Cup in Qatar helped Gue-sung to expand his profile as a player considerably. The Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors star impressed most against Ghana in the group stage, where he bagged a brace for his nation in a 3-2 defeat.
