The sooner this summer transfer window shuts the better, for all of our sakes...

The transfer window isn’t exactly a time for the faint hearted football supporter, as it can instantly raise the blood pressure of the most laidback amongst us, with this current window proven to be no different as the clock ticks down until it slams shut at 7pm on 1st September and thankfully that will be that until the new year.

Celtic’s window started well and promised more

Celtic started our business in decent fashion it has to be said, bringing in Kieran Tierney, Benjamin Nygren, Ross Doohan, Callum Osmand, Hayato Inamura, Shin Yamada, and most recently Jahmai Simpson – Pusey, but it’s fell flat since then with no sight of any new recruits incoming with several rumoured targets failing to materialise.

It’s been even more frustrating as we lost the services of Nicolas Khun, especially with there being no sight or sound of us reinvesting the £17 million we received for his signature on any new faces to freshen up our lightweight striking department.

Kyogo, Kuhn and Jota need replacing

Celtic have yet again failed to replace our main striker after Kyogo was sold in January. The club has reduced the wage bill by offloading players deemed surplus to requirements and picked up some transfer fees along the way (Gustaf Lagerbielke). Windfall payments from former Celts moving on will add substantial sums to the bank balance (Frimpong and Doak) but we seem incapable of signing a winger to replace Jota  (out since April with an ACL injury which is long-term) on the left or  Kuhn on the right.

Social media in particular has been a constant of doom and gloom, and it’s seriously effecting the moral of the Celtic supporters, with even the embarrassing lowballing offers now having dried up at Michael Nicholson’s ‘world class’ football operation.

However there remains some hope that we will add a few more additions before the end of the window, and I like a lot of supporters remain optimistic that we will do just that. Michael Nicholson, like his former boss (Peter Lawwell) seems to be waiting to see if the riches of the Champions League are coming our way before spending a shilling or two.

The sooner this window closes then the better for all our sakes, and hopefully it slams shut with a few more additions in Brendan’s squad to help us through the Champions League group stages, assuming there is no shock result in the playoff against Kairat Almaty.

Brendan Rodgers gave a three year-promise which he’ll keep

The lack of ambition from the Celtic Board will of course see Brendan Rodgers fulfil his three-year promise then leave in the summer, with suitable board-friendly placements made to run the football operation just as the board want it.  We have an elite manager for one more season, enjoy it while we can. The only way that changes is if the Celtic Board deliver on their own promises over the next ten days.

The clock is ticking.
