According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has the green light to move for a new goalkeeper this summer after Vasilis Barkas committed yet another gaffe.

The Greek international was at fault for Midtjylland’s equaliser during Tuesday’s 1-1 draw in the first-leg of the Champions League second qualifying rounds, and the Hoops have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

The Sun are reporting that the 33-year-old has rejected the Saints new contract as they look to cut down his £100,000-a-week wages to around £70,000-a-week.

They could be tempted to move him on this summer as a result, handing Celtic an opportunity to move for a permanent transfer.

Forster has had four spells at Parkhead, joining thrice on loan, and although both parties could be very keen on a reunion, his hefty weekly wages would make a deal difficult.

Celtic simply cannot have Barkas in goal if they want to make anything out of the 2021-22 campaign, and Scott Bain and Conor Hazard are not the answers.

It is unknown whether Southampton would be open to loaning out Forster again, paying part of his wages in the process, but that is the only realistic solution for a Parkhead return to work out.

Celtic could be forced to look elsewhere despite the boost the contract situation of the English veteran has given them, and Postecoglou is not likely to be short of goalkeeping options in the European, Australian and Asian markets.
