Shane Duffy officially confirmed his early departure from Celtic, posting a message on this Instagram account

“Grateful for the opportunity to get the chance to play for a club that many dream about doing. Thanks to the supporters and the players for helping me through a tough year on and off the field. Not many know what goes on behind the scenes. Time to hit restart and get myself sorted. Celtic Football Club will always have a place in my heart. Hail hail.”

And he used a photograph of the Scottish Cup celebrations after the penalty shoot-out win against Hearts in December, reminding everyone that he left Scottish football having won a medal, despite enduring probably the toughest season of his career.

It’s fair to say that Celtic fans didn’t see Shane Duffy at anywhere near his best but few if any hold any grudges towards the Irishman who will now return to Brighton where he has two years of his current contract remaining. The word from down there is that he is surplus to requirements and is likely to make a move in the summer, perhaps to an English Championship side.

Yesterday when covering the breaking story of Shane’s early release from his loan spell at Celtic, Lubo98 stated that there was no hard feelings towards the Irishman among the Celtic support. That’s spot on and we all wish Shane all the best as he sets about rediscovering his form and getting his career back on track. HH
