Rangers winning the Europa League would trump Celtic‘s Scottish Premiership title win, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

Ange Postecoglou’s side regained their top-flight crown following a 1-1 draw with Dundee United on Wednesday, but their Old Firm rivals could claim a first ever European title if they beat Eintracht Frankfurt next week.

What’s the latest news involving Celtic and Rangers?

Regardless of what happens in the Europa League final, it’s been a successful campaign for both of Scotland’s top dogs.

Generally, second is last north of the border, especially with the champions crucially going straight into the group stages of next season’s Champions League for the first time in a number of years.

Who scored Celtic’s first goal of the season?

Mohamed Elyounoussi Odsonne Edouard Kristoffer Ajer James Forrest

But Rangers winning the Europa League would give them a reprieve after their title collapse and ensure that both clubs are playing in Europe’s elite competition next season for the first time since 2007-2008.

And Bridge reckons success over Frankfurt next week would “trump” Celtic’s title win.

What did Bridge say about Celtic and Rangers?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Celtic have won the title, so this is the first time that they go straight into the Champions League group stages, instead of going through the qualifiers, so the league title this year was so important.

“However, this is going to annoy Celtic fans, and I’m sure, if Rangers win the Europa League, it will trump their title win. Rangers fans were partying in the stands against Dundee on Sunday after beating Leipzig.”

Would Rangers winning the Europa League be bad news for Celtic?

From a fans’ point of view, Rangers winning a European trophy would be a bitter pill to swallow for the Hoops faithful.

Furthermore, it would give the Gers a huge financial boost, which could have a positive impact on Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s transfer business and put them in a great position ahead of trying to regain the title next season.

Regardless of what happens in Seville, it’s still been an unforgettable season for Celtic, but Rangers lifting the Europa League title would put a damper on what’s been a memorable first year in Scotland for Postecoglou.
