According to Mexican outlet Record, Brendan Rodgers and Celtic will join the race for talented centre-back Edson Álvarez from Club América.
The versatile Álvarez can also play as a defensive midfielder, centre-midfielder, and right-back.
The 21-year-old started all four games for Mexico at the World Cup in Russia and is one of the country’s biggest young talents, having already won 20 caps.
Record reports many European teams are monitoring Álvarez, but only mentioned Celtic by name.
On Sunday, Club América defeated Cruz Azul (managed by former Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha) 2-0 in the second leg of the Liga MX Apertura final to win their 13th title and their first in four years. The two clubs drew 0-0 in the first leg.
Álvarez was the hero, scoring both goals despite having only scored two goals in 69 prior Liga MX appearances.
Club América has reportedly yet to receive a bid for the 21-year-old, however, they expect to see activity in the January window.
