Celtic became the first team to win four consecutive Scottish League Cup finals since 1969 after beating Rangers 1-0 at Hampden Park.

Rangers initially took control of the first half, with on-loan goalkeeper Fraser Forster saving expertly from Ryan Jack and later Alfredo Morelos.

But it wouldn’t be an Old Firm derby without some challenges flying in. And fly in they did.

Scott Brown was booked for a late challenge on Morelos, while Glen Kamara saw yellow for pulling down Jeremie Frimpong.

And then Celtic went ahead against the run of play.

After Odsonne Édouard was brought down, Ryan Christie whipped in the following free-kick and Christopher Jullien of all people ghosted in to volley home.

Just three minutes later, Rangers were awarded a penalty after Frimpong hauled back Morelos in the box – with the 18-year-old also seeing red.

Morelos – scorer of 22 goals this season – stepped up to take it but saw his effort saved by the monstrous Fraser.

Rangers continued to press and went close again through Morelos and Jermain Defoe, while Celtic missed a golden chance to secure the game through Mikey Johnstone.

But the Bhoys somehow held out and secured their first piece of silverware for the season.
