Celtic are ‘desperate’ to sign Tottenham Hotspur central defender Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis but have ‘other options on the table’ if they fail to finalise the deal, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Having secured the Scottish Premiership title thanks a draw at Dundee United on Wednesday, Bhoys boss Ange Postecoglou can now turn his attentions towards striking deals in the upcoming transfer window.

What’s the latest news involving Carter-Vickers?

Carter-Vickers played a key role in Celtic being crowned champions, with him becoming a regular starter at the heart of the backline.

That came after sealing a season-long loan move from Spurs in the final stages of last summer’s transfer window.

Carter-Vickers’ performances have clearly caught the eye as Celtic are keen to seen him remain at Parkhead beyond the end of the campaign, with chief executive Michael Nicholson being put in charge of negotiating a permanent agreement.

It seems Nicholson has made inroads as, according to American media outlet SBI Soccer, the Glasgow giants are in advanced talks over a £10million transfer despite additional interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City and Watford.

While there is the possibility of heading back to the Premier League, it is understood that those in the eight-cap United States international’s camp feel remaining with Celtic is the best option.

What has Pete O’Rourke said about Carter-Vickers?

O’Rourke believes Celtic are doubling down on ensuring Carter-Vickers will still be at Postecoglou’s disposal next season.

However, the journalist understands the Bhoys have identified other targets in case they are unable to get a deal over the line.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “He’s been really impressive at Celtic, slotted straight into the team under Ange Postecoglou and been among the top performers for the club.

“I think they will be desperate to get this deal done, but I’m sure Celtic’s scouting and recruitment team have got other options on the table if they aren’t able to sign the USA international.”

Have Celtic been linked with any other defenders?

Postecoglou, who was appointed as Celtic’s manager last June, appears to be keen on bolstering his backline.

According to The Scottish Sun, the Bhoys are on the verge of sealing a deal which will see Mohanad Jeahze head to Parkhead in the summer.

The report suggests the newly-crowned Scottish Premiership champions are set to fork out £2million to acquire him from Hammarby.

The 25-year-old left-back, who is a four-cap Iraq international, has shown he can be productive in the attacking third of the pitch this season.
