Celtic have been dealt a huge blow to their chances of securing a deal to bring Hannes Wolf to Parkhead in the January transfer window.
That’s according to a report by Wales Online, who claim that Swansea City are set to sign the Borussia Monchengladbach attacking midfielder on a loan deal until the end of the season.
Previous reports had suggested that Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic side were also extremely interested in a deal for the 22-year-old playmaker this month, however, following the latest update, it would now seem as if the Bhoys are set to miss out on a deal for the former Austria U21 international.

With Celtic having already missed out on the signing of Riley McGree to Middlesbrough earlier this month, as well as West Bromwich Albion attempting to hijack the Hoops’ move for MK Dons midfielder Matt O’Riley as recently as Wednesday, the news that yet another Championship side look set to land yet another Celtic target in Wolf is sure to have left fans seething.
However, it will not only be jealousy that will be causing the Parkhead faithful distress, but also the fact that the Bhoys look as if are missing out on a player with a huge amount of potential.
Indeed, over his 22 Austrian Bundesliga appearances back in 2018/19, the £12.5m-rated man was in remarkable form for Red Bull Salzburg, scoring eight goals, providing seven assists and creating four big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 1.9 shots and making 1.1 key passes per game.
These returns saw the £27k-per-week forward earn an extremely impressive seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.92 – playing a key role in his side’s title-winning campaign that year.

As such, it is undeniable that Wolf would have made a fantastic addition to Postecoglou’s current options in attacking midfield, however, with the 22-year-old now looking set for a move to Wales, the 56-year-old Bhoys boss will yet again be rueing a second-tier side in England stealing one of his January targets.
