The SPFL have announced an end to the 2019/20 Scottish Premiership season with holders Celtic crowned as champions.

That follows weeks of votes and extensive discussions since the league was halted in mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic but has now been concluded as government regulations prevent the league resuming before 10 June.

The league have now confirmed that Celtic will be awarded the championship, winning nine consecutive titles for the second time in their history, using the points-per-game system to decide the final standings.

As their blistering start to the new year coincided with a dip in form from closest challengers Rangers, the Hoops had built up a 13-point lead with eight games remaining.

At the other end of the table, the premature conclusion to the campaign means that Hearts have been relegated to the Championship.

It means Celtic striker Odsonne Édouard ends the season as the league’s top scorer with 21 goals, while team-mate James Forrest leads the assist charts with 15.

Both the SPFL and Scottish FA have been assured by Uefa that concluding the season prematurely will not result in forfeiting European places.
