Celtic made a “strange” error when they chose not to dismiss John Kennedy after Neil Lennon’s resignation in February.

That is according to ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Celtic’s 2-0 Scottish Cup defeat to Rangers on Sunday.

That was Celtic’s first defeat in six matches but the mood among supporters is generally not favourable towards Kennedy.

The 37-year-old was named interim manager after Neil Lennon left his post at Parkhead.

Kenny lamented Celtic’s decision not to give Kennedy the boot after Lennon’s exit and claimed that “nothing will have changed” on the training pitch.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “I think that could be key. You find that a lot of the time the owners will clear the whole lot out.

“Kennedy has been around Lennon and everything will probably still be the same.

“Nothing will have changed because he’s used to working under the way they were before.

“It’s one of those where I don’t get why you wouldn’t have a full clearout, start afresh and have different ideas. It’s a strange one.

“It can’t be easy for Kennedy. He’s still got a job to do and he’s not just going to jump ship.”
