CUMBERNAULD COLTS… 0

Celtic FC B marked their return to action on Tuesday evening with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Cumbernauld Colts.

Heading back to the Excelsior Stadium, goals from Lenny Agbaire, Ben Quinn and Daniel Cummings handed the Hoops a well-deserved three points.

After two weeks without a game, the young Hoops were back to league duties under the lights on Tuesday evening. And it took a bit of time to settle into the match, with both teams enjoying a fair share of early proceedings as they looked to carve open the first chance of the match.

However, the Celts soon kicked into gear and were able to grab the all-important first goal of the match on 14 minutes.

Delivering a dangerous ball into the box from a corner, defender Lenny Agbaire was on hand to jump highest and nod it home into the back of the net to hand the Bhoys an early advantage.

After grabbing their first goal, the Celts were looking to put pressure on the Cumbernauld Colts backline, pressing high up the pitch to win the ball back.

Ben Quinn came close to scoring a quick-fire second for the Hoops after intercepting a throw from the goalkeeper, but the Colts shot-stopper produced a good response to deny the Irishman.

However, the Irish winger didn’t have to wait long to get his goal on the night, scoring before the half time whistle to make it 2-0 at the break.

Latching on the end of a wonderfully weighted pass in behind the defence by Daniel Cummings, Quinn was on hand to score his second in as many games with a composed finish under the goalkeeper.

Following their second goal of the match, the Bhoys were unfortunate not to find a third just before the break as the ball made its way to Thomas Hatton on the right after a nice interchange outside the area.

The winger took a touch to set himself, before attempting a similar finish to Quinn underneath the keeper, but this time the Colts shot-stopper did just that.

Going into the second half, the Celts maintained that same pressure and were looking to go on the front foot early on.

And didn’t take long for the Bhoys to make it 3-0 as Daniel Cummings got in on the act inside the opening 11 minutes of the half.

Working the ball inside the area, the forward picked up the ball before lashing a powerful strike towards goal, leaving the goalkeeper no chance with his finish.

For the rest of the half, the Bhoys continued to push for more, creating plenty of opportunities. However, they couldn’t add to their tally but all three points were well wrapped up after an impressive 90 minute performance from the young Celtic side.

The Celts don’t have to wait long until they are back in action, with another league outing this Sunday as they travel to take on Stirling University.
