Celtic and Aberdeen fined £30k for COVID-19 breaches | OneFootball

CELTIC AND ABERDEEN have been fined £30k by the SPFL for COVID-19 breaches following the eight Aberdeen players that went out in the city centre following a match and for Bolingoli going for an overnight to Spain.

The decision to punish the clubs appeared to be harsh considering it was the players that broke the rules. However, the SPFL have passed down a fine of £30,000 with £22k of that being suspended pending any further breaches. The remaining balance of £8k will be paid to the SPFL Trust.

The new rules imposed by the SFA and SPFL allow for clubs and players to be charged with breaking the rules and detail how the punishments range for a variety of different breaches. Whilst Celtic and Aberdeen fume at the individuals, the footballing authorities sought to make an example out of those that threatened to have politicians step into the football arena call for games to be paused indefinitely.

Celtic’s games against St Mirren and Aberdeen were cancelled as a result of Bolingoli’s actions and with the news coming so soon after the Aberdeen outbreak, Nicola Sturgeon was tempting to pull the plug on the new season.

Since then, Celtic have returned to form after the Bolingoli fiasco and the exit from Europe and will be hoping to put this episode behind them – with Bolingoli loaned to Turkey.
