Celtic defender Josip Juranovic has a ‘chance to leave’ Parkhead this month, transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport.

The Scottish champions have already signed a replacement for the Croatian international, who has been linked with a move to the Premier League.

Celtic transfer news – Josip Juranovic

It appears Celtic are set to cash-in on Juranovic this month with a number of clubs south of the border and in Europe seemingly interested in the 27-year-old.

He was reportedly offered to Chelsea earlier in the transfer window and remains an option for the Blues, who are seemingly keen to bring in a back-up option to England international Reece James.

Transfer insider Dean Jones also informed GiveMeSport in December that Steve McClaren had recommended the former Legia Warsaw and Hadjuk Split man as a potential addition at Manchester United.

Earlier this month, Celtic signed Alistair Johnston from MLS outfit CF Montreal and as a fellow right-back, it seems the Bhoys are relatively well-stocked in that position should Juranovic leave, although Anthony Ralston hasn’t been seen since an injury in December.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Josip Juranovic?

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Romano claimed that Juranovic could get an opportunity to leave Celtic this month following Johnston’s arrival.

He also speculated that a deal could be worth up to €9m (£7.9m).

Romano told GMS: “They already signed his replacement earlier in the window so I think there is a chance for him to leave and the value is around €8m-€9m. So let’s see if some of these clubs will find the way to sign him.”

Should Celtic cash-in on Juranovic?

This transfer window probably does represent Celtic’s best opportunity to get good money for Juranovic.

His performances for Croatia at the World Cup didn’t go unnoticed, with Gary Neville describing him as “absolutely brilliant.”

He said during ITV’s“Absolutely brilliant. Juranovic is fantastic going forward, epitomises the modern day full-back – he’s bright, he’s lively, he’s not just serving the attack – he’s contributing to it. He’s been a real presence in this tournament on the right-hand side for Croatia.”

The fact Juranovic’s contract doesn’t expire until 2026 allows Celtic to drive a hard bargain, while selling mid-season means they can demand a premium on top of his market value.

At the same time, with Ange Postecoglou’s side comfortably ahead of Rangers in the table, it’s unlikely losing Juranovic would weaken them to such an extent that this season’s title is put into any serious jeopardy.

Amid the potential for a bidding war with several big clubs interested, it makes business sense to sell while the iron’s hot.
