According to De Telegraaf, Celta Vigo are set to sign Tasos Douvikas from FC Utrecht. The Greek striker joined Utrecht for just over €1m two years ago, and now he’s on his way to Spanish La Liga side Celta Vigo, who will pay around €12m. The departure will make Douvikas the largest outgoing in Utrecht’s history.
Douvikas is expected to undergo medical tests in Spain this weekend ahead of the move. Therefore, he won’t be in action for Utrecht when they take on PEC Zwolle this Sunday. The 24-year-old striker has already said goodbye to his teammates following Utrecht’s training session on Friday afternoon.
Last season, Tasos Douvikas finished as the Eredivisie’s joint-top scorer along with Xavi Simons. The 15-time Greece international scored 19 goals and provided four assists as Utrecht finished in seventh place. Now, a new challenge awaits the striker. Douvikas will play for Celta Vigo, who finished 13th in La Liga last season. As for Utrecht, they’ve signed 13 players this summer, including Isac Lidberg, Mats Seuntjens and Ole Romeny, who can all operate as a striker.
