As Barcelona prepare to face Celta Vigo, manager Hansi Flick will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on Iago Aspas, a player who has caused significant problems for the Blaugrana in recent encounters.
The 37-year-old striker has an impressive record against Barcelona, scoring 11 goals and providing four assists in 21 matches.
In fact, Barcelona are one of Aspas’ favourite teams to score against, with only Sevilla having seen him score more goals (12) than the Catalan giants.
Aspas’ most recent goal against Barcelona came last season when Celta Vigo hosted the Blaugrana. The striker scored an equalizer following a well-timed pass from Oscar Mingueza, showcasing his ability to take advantage of any defensive lapses.
Aspas’ knack for finding the back of the net against Barcelona is no accident; his skill and clinical finishing have made him a consistent threat over the years.
In addition to his goalscoring exploits, Aspas has become something of a ‘nemesis’ for Barcelona’s goalkeepers, particularly Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Aspas has scored 10 goals against the German shot-stopper, making him the player with the most goals scored against Ter Stegen.
The only other Barcelona goalkeeper Aspas has managed to beat is Jasper Cillessen, when he found the net during the 2018-19 season.
However, Ter Stegen will not be available for this upcoming match, as he continues to recover from the serious knee injury he suffered against Villarreal. This means that Inaki Pena will be tasked with keeping Aspas at bay.
Pena will have a tough job ahead of him, given Aspas’ form this season. Despite being 37 years old, Aspas remains Celta Vigo’s most influential player.
He has taken on a deeper role this season, often dropping back to orchestrate play and provide crucial passes. So far in the league, he has contributed four goals and three assists and has missed just one match due to suspension.
With the Spaniard still performing at a high level, Barcelona will need to stay vigilant to ensure that the Celta captain does not continue his habit of tormenting them on the pitch.
